Appeal for Holocaust Survivors

Dear friends,

This November, I will be running the ING New York City Marathon in an effort to raise money for The Blue-Card Fund, an organization that helps destitute Holocaust survivors.

As the son of a Holocaust survivor, this organization is very meaningful to me. In 1940, my father, Jacob Kaminetzky, was born in the Polish town of Derezin which was ulitimately liquidated by the Nazis. With God's help, my father and the surviving members of his family came to the United States where they were able to create a new life for themselves.

Unfortunately, not all survivors were able to rebuild. I was shocked to learn that of the approximately 100,000 survivors living in the United States, 30,000 are living on an annual income of $12,000 or less. Many of these survivors live alone and are disabled. Many are facing homelessness.

Blue-Card generously provides assistance to these individuals in a number of ways such as:

1)Emergency cash assistance for dental care, food, hearing aids, etc.

2) Monthly stipends - so that people don’t have to make the choice between paying rent and paying utilities.

3)The Jewish Holiday Program—to provide for the necessities involved for the High Holy Days, Passover and Hanukah.

My goal is to raise $2,500, all of which will go directly to impoverished Holocaust survivors (no overhead & tax-deductible)

Please type "Elliot Kaminetzky" in the comments section so I will know how close I am to meeting my fundraising goal.

Thank you for supporting me and this important cause.
